Match report – 1s V Cobham, 10th Jan 2015

Squad: T, SJW, Sophie, Lozza, Amy, Chief (C), Jen, Apples, Janelle & Suz

Q1 10-8 to Cobham
Super close quarter drawing virtually the whole 15 min until Cobs converted a turnover just before the whistle. Some nice movement around the D in attack, defence forcing errors but Cobs keeping up similar levels of pressure – it was going to be an interesting game…

Q2 27-18 to Cobham
Cobs came out raring to go in defence and managed to force a few errors and 3 second calls, their attack also ramped it up with the play-making GA finding her stride – we let it slip a little but were not beaten…

Q3 34-30 to Cobham
Nuns won the quarter by 5, boom back in the game! Great focus and patience in attack with great positioning in the D by Suz. Full court defence breaking apart Cobham’s attack. Soph marking the GA out of the game certainly helped!

Q4 43-39 to NUNS
Cobham started strong managing to maintain a 3/4 goal lead for the first half of the quarter – then we started to chip away at the lead and once momentum was with us we played immaculate netball. Zero errors and immense focus, extreme patience and accuracy in attack and particularly superb and key interceptions from Apples at WA and Lozza at WD. Lozza, Chief and Soph working relentlessly to keep their players out of the game then T positioning herself perfectly in a one on one with the GS to pluck the ball out of the air time and time again.

Player of the match Janelle – great movement and fast hands in the D, sinking shots in from everywhere. We laugh in the face of wind!

To sum up how we snatched victory in 3 words: focus, determination, fitness.

Match Report: 1s vs Teddington – 29th Nov 14 (Kingston)

Squad & starting line-up:

GD: Soph

WD: Jen

C: Chief

WA: Gilly

GA: Apples

GS: Suz

This was one of those games that it felt like it never quite got going. Teddington went 5-0 up straight away. Our ball position and pre-moves were just not happening. Then everyone had a word with themselves and each other and we all started to settle. Good reaction during the quarter rather than waiting until quarter time to change it.

End of the 1st quarter the score was 8 all…nothing like giving ourselves an easy to start to the game!

We remained focused and determined and carried on adding to the scoreboard and there were moments of great flow and movement where the game was looking like how we normally play.

Squad changes at most quarters and everyone adapted and continued to remain focused on securing a win.

Score breakdown:

Q1: 8-8

Q2: 16-13 (to NUNS)

Q3: 26-19 (to NUNS)

Final score: 35 – 27 (to NUNS)

MOM: Chief

Match Report: 1s V Tiffen, 1 Nov 2014

Capital NUNS 1s took on an old rival Tiffin at Nonsuch on Saturday 1st November. We had a good, stern team talk as to why we were there and what we wanted to achieve as a team…to win!

We had a solid start to the match, positive movement on court, strong defence throughout and a definite will to win. End of first quarter score was a convincing 13-6 to NUNS.

After securing this convincing lead we had moments of brilliance and glory but also moments of questioning and doubt. One passage of play would be seamless, confident and effective but the next would be slow to release, early moves and a lack of re offering. At half time the score was: 21-16, Tiffin had started to come back.

The second half was fraught and furious from both teams. Outstanding goals were scored only to be matched seconds later by a held ball or unforced error.

Through the frustrations we triumphed holding on to our lead and winning 39-36. It was a tough mental game and we need to all ask ourselves questions as to the lack of fluidity and errors made however, we won! We kept pushing and holding on and credit should be given for our true grit and determination!

Match Report: 1s Vs Alpha, Surrey County League, 27th Sept 2014

Squad: Suz, Janelle, Hayley, Jen, Chief, Amy, Lozza, Soph, Vanessa, T

The short version…we went, we fought, we conquered. NUNs 33 – Alpha 28

The longer (well slightly) version…

This week we were up against our County rivals Alpha. It was set to be a match of epic proportions…and we were ready.

Quarter 1

We took to the court full of energy and with a desire to win! We started off steady, settling into our combination and working out their style of play. This quarter was quite end to end, with both teams evenly matched. However, we did really well at defending all the way down court and putting pressure on, especially in the circle. We finished the first quarter at 9-9. Plenty to play for!

Quarter 2:

After a re-group we went back on court to put in another solid 15 minutes. Attack worked the triangles well to get the ball safely into the circle, where Suz and Janelle were negotiating two really tall defenders. At one stage we pulled away to 17-11, but then let them creep back slowly to finish the quarter 18-18.

Quarter 3

A few changes at half time saw Hayley come on as GA and Janelle move to WA, what a combo! It took a few minutes to settle back in, working the ball around the circle edge to make sure the shooting opportunities were on, but once they were on they were on! Defence were another level, with tips and turnovers all over the place. Lozza was categorically not letting anyone on the circle edge, it was awesome! I think we finished the quarter at 25-21. (Amy’s score card looked like a piece of art so it’s hard to tell!)

Quarter 4

It was all about keeping the lead in this quarter, and it got TENSE! As we took the court our fitness really showed. We kept our cool, keeping the ball safe and controlled and showcased some great skill. We pulled away and then Alpha pushed back to within two. However with one final push (and a lot of passion!) we stretched away finishing the match with a well-deserved win 33-28!

Player of match – Tamara!
