Capital NUNS 1s took on an old rival Tiffin at Nonsuch on Saturday 1st November. We had a good, stern team talk as to why we were there and what we wanted to achieve as a team…to win!
We had a solid start to the match, positive movement on court, strong defence throughout and a definite will to win. End of first quarter score was a convincing 13-6 to NUNS.
After securing this convincing lead we had moments of brilliance and glory but also moments of questioning and doubt. One passage of play would be seamless, confident and effective but the next would be slow to release, early moves and a lack of re offering. At half time the score was: 21-16, Tiffin had started to come back.
The second half was fraught and furious from both teams. Outstanding goals were scored only to be matched seconds later by a held ball or unforced error.
Through the frustrations we triumphed holding on to our lead and winning 39-36. It was a tough mental game and we need to all ask ourselves questions as to the lack of fluidity and errors made however, we won! We kept pushing and holding on and credit should be given for our true grit and determination!
